  |  | Sevierville, TN is the hometown of America’s biggest country legend – Dolly Parton. So far during her prolific career, she has penned over 3,000 songs! As a tribute to her song writing, Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass is presenting the third annual Mountain Soul Vocal Competition. Contestants must sing a song written by Dolly | Parton in the style of his or her own choosing – that may be country, bluegrass, rock, rap, etc. It is not necessary nor is it encouraged to impersonate Dolly physically or vocally. Simply sing the song in the way most suited to your vocal style.
Event organizers want to encourage contestants to choose from a wide variety of Dolly Parton songs (all 3,000 are listed at www.dollymania.net). However, contest-ants may NOT sing I Will Always Love You. As far as event organizers know, this is the only vocal competition of its type anywhere. Twenty finalists will be chosen to come to Sevierville, TN on May 17, 2008 and compete.
Contestants will be judged by a panel of entertainment professionals both during the preliminary round and the finals. Two age divisions: 13+ and 12 and under. The winner of the 13+ division will receive $500, a recording session in Nashville. The winner of the 12 and under division will receive $100 and two season passes to Dollywood.
